ISRAELI DANCE & ROBIN STARR (OF THE DIFFERENT SOCKS DANCE COMPANY)
HAHORA HABILTI TSFUYAH
I had not created a Hora before this dance, so decided it was time. My earliest IFD memories of Horas were from Habonim, where a marathon meant doing a Hora for an hour non stop! As per my normal practise, the music and dance were created simultaneously. I had originally planned for the dance to be in the normal 4/4 Hora rhythm, but somehow, the music turned into a rhumba - don't ask me how - the creative juices flow freely when I am in the mood and I am at their mercy! I had also planned that the dance would be a beginners dance, but in retrospect, realise that the music syncopation and asynchronous clapping and bouncing make the dance harder than anticipated. Once I had finished the dance, the name came easily - "The Unexpected Hora"
